My Memorable Trip To The World’s Liveliest City: Melbourne
If I have to name one city in the world which I love the most, then it will be Melbourne which is one of the biggest cities in Australia. Melbourne is ranked number one on the list of liveliest cities of the world. I went to Melbourne few times due to the immense love I have for this city. From big shopping malls to various cafes to beautiful attractions, this city has a lot to offer. Among all my trips to Melbourne, the longer I stayed for 2 days and 3 nights. I explored the city on car with my sister and also did lots of shopping. Are you planning to visit Melbourne for the first time? Then read below my travel experience of this amazing city.
My Travelogue: 2 days in Melbourne
It was in April last year when I and my sister planned to visit Melbourne as my semester just ended and I got off from university for few days. It was 4th April when we arrived at Adelaide Airport with excitement. We booked Virgin airlines to Melbourne which was quite a comfortable flight. We experienced turbulence a few times during flight, but it felt alright. It took us around about an hour and 20 minutes to reach Melbourne. I don’t usually sleep during the short flights and spend my time taking pictures of clouds from my plane window.
We finally reached Melbourne in the evening. We booked a car on rent from the airport and made our way to Travelodge Hotel near Southbank. Hotel room was very clean and beautiful. It had a window from which we could see the huge buildings outside. As we were very tired already, we had a light dinner and went straight to sleep.
Early morning next day, we went to the South Gate Market and had coffee in breakfast. Later on, we had fries as a light snack. South Gate area was very crowded with lots of tourists. We walked through the mall and then went to a street nearby where people were having small stalls of a variety of different things and food. From there we went to the Yarra River where people were enjoying cruise tours. We wanted to explore Melbourne by ourselves, so we decided not to go in cruise. We took a few pictures there and went to a huge shopping mall ‘DFO’, which had more than 180 stores. Many stores had around 70% off, so we bought a few items from local and international stores.
We roamed around the roads and finally found a good place to eat dinner. It was a famous Kebab Station on the Sydney Road. We hadn’t eaten anything in lunch except for some snacks so we were very much hungry. The shop was full of customers. We ordered chicken kebabs with bread and sat outside in open air. After waiting for 10 minutes, they served us hot and fresh kebabs with sauce, salad, yogurt and bread.
It was not late night yet, so we decided to go to Crown Towers and watch a movie. We parked our car in the parking lot near our hotel and decided to walk to the towers. Crown Towers was fully crowded with lots of guys, girls and couples. Some came for casino while others came for a night party in a club inside Crown Towers. We headed off to Village Cinemas inside and watched a nice Bollywood movie.
After finishing the movie, we rested near the river for some time and walked to the hotel. On the way, there was a car showroom featuring vintage cars. As I’m crazy vintage car lover, I couldn’t stop myself from taking a few pictures. By the way, the showroom was closed otherwise I wouldn’t get such opportunity hehe.
Further down the road, there was a bling shop featuring gorgeous chandeliers. After around 20 minutes of walking, we finally reached our hotel and went straight to our room. It was around 3.15 am in the morning.
Next day, we woke up and decide to go for a long drive as the weather was pretty cool. Here I want to mention that, Melbourne weather is unpredictable. If it’s sunny in the morning, you can expect freezing cold in the night which I absolutely love.
We went to Melbourne CBD which was very crowded with foreign tourists. We had breakfast at McDonald’s and walked to the H&M store. As there is no H&M in Adelaide, I got very excited and bought a few shirts and scarfs for myself. We roamed around the Melbourne streets and took pictures of its artistic buildings.
There were all the international brands in CBD including an individual store of Louis Vuitton and Gucci which made me very excited.
We ate delicious Churros near the Flinders Railway Station and made our way to Nandos for lunch. After that, we went to China Town and bought some face masks from a big Chinese store. We wanted to have a coffee so we went to the famous Max Brenner Cafe.
My sister had coffee and strawberries with freshly made chocolate sauce while I just had Cappuccino Granite which was way too delicious. If you ever go to Melbourne, I recommend you to visit this cafe and enjoy yummy coffee and desserts. It was late night in Melbourne but there were people all over the streets who were out for the party. We came back to our hotel, packed our bags and slept as we had flight back to Adelaide next morning.
It was 7th April morning and weather was too chill. It was going to rain hard that day as there were big clouds above us. We drove straight to the airport and gave the car back to the rent service nearby. We had breakfast at a cafe in airport while waiting for our flight time.
For return, we booked Qantas Airways which was as good as other local airlines. We finally reached Adelaide in the afternoon.
Even though we didn’t do any adventure during our trip, it was the most amazing experience. We wanted to travel around the Melbourne on road and we really enjoyed it. If you wish to visit Melbourne, do visit South gate, malls especially DFO, Kebab station and Crown Towers if you are into party mood.
You’ll absolutely fall in love with this wonderful city. Have a nice trip and travel! 🙂
